Perszenal Time: Finding Time for Yourself

TimeSo as I started brainstorming for this website, I began budgeting time in my schedule to work on posts and other things I hope to install in the future here. I’d mark time on sticky notes, or on my calendar, usually about an hour or two a day. This time would be used for self reflection, walks with my camera, or as a time slot to begin writing posts for Perszenal. My time sheets would be marked simply with “Perszenal”, nothing more, nothing less. This allowed me to have a time period during the day to do as I pleased. What was so obvious now, wasn’t such then. This was my, if you will, Perszenal Time. This post will help shed light on what exactly I mean by this, and will help you find Perszenal Time for yourself.

What Exactly is Perszenal Time?

To be as concise as possible, Perszenal Time can be whatever you want it to be. It should, however, be a time spent either by yourself, or in a small, focused group. It is a time for mindfulness, self-reflection, or some type of meditation. Perszenal Time is free from distractions and interference. This time should be used for positive, focused energy. It is quite simply, a personal, zen-ish time.

How Often Do I Allow for Perszenal Time?

Ideally, I partake in some sort of Perszenal Time every day. Depending on my schedule, the time period for this ranges from anywhere between 15 minutes to several hours. You’re probably thinking I’m crazy for taking two or three hours out of my day for something like this, but this is often the most productive part of my day.

The best thing about this, is that you can adapt Perszenal Time to your schedule. For those of you who are struggling to find time in your schedules to allow for this sort of activity, look for any activity you do on a daily basis that you spend alone. For the busiest of people, this may only be a commute to work, or a morning shower, but that is fine. Use this time to be fully in the moment, or reflect inward. In time, you’ll find more opportunities for this sort of activity.

What is the Goal of Perszenal Time?

There aren’t any specific goals of Perszenal Time. In fact, the idea is that there are no limits, boundaries, or end points. The point is to be free of things and objectives, and to be in a period of clearness. If you still need a goal or objective with this, let it be to be fully present and mindful during this time. Understand the potential here is endless and there is no right or wrong in your time.

What About My Perszenal Time?

Like I stated earlier, I had initially designated certain time slots in my schedule to Perszenal Time. While I still do this, I now partake in this type of consciousness randomly throughout my day. It is still necessary for me to set apart time for myself, but I am less reliant on it. My Perszenal Time is usually spent alone, but occasionally my roommates and I will sit to discuss certain things that I have contemplated during my time alone.

My favorite spot to go during my Perszenal Time is to a trail just a few minutes from my apartment. I always bring my camera and a notebook, and sometimes bring a friend. I find I am more likely to be in the present moment when I am walking alone in nature. When I’m here, I walk without a distinct purpose or destination, and take notes of interesting things I think about or see. Sometimes I’ll walk for a while, other times I’ll find a good place to sit, and walk very little.

It is fun to bring a friend and discuss different theories and ideas, but it isn’t always the best thing for me personally. I tend to get distracted with other people, but some of my best Perszenal Times have been with a close friend.

Make it Personal!

You can come up with your own name for this sort of activity, but I find Perszenal works well for me for numerous reasons. I also find that the morning works best for me, in terms of setting a schedule for this, but perhaps you will find it easier at night. Whatever you choose, make a habit of finding time for yourself. In time, I’m confident you will grow to enjoy, and perhaps need, this sort of personal time on a daily basis. I’m anxious to see what works best for you, so don’t be afraid to leave a comment!
